Young talent

Nedbank is no ordinary financial institution; it’s a beacon for client innovation, diversity, financial expertise and positive change. But, to ensure we continue to be a part of the change we want to see, now and in the future, we accept only the best — extraordinary people with the desire to better themselves as well as South Africa. We want you to meet those people because we wouldn’t be where we are today without them.

Every year Nedbank enrols over 200 young graduates and career starters from different communities into its various learnership programmes as a way of imparting skills and easing poverty and unemployment.

In keeping with selecting purpose-driven people who we believe will be a fit for our organisation, all job training and skills development programmes carry the common theme of being trainee-led. Once selected, you will be given the option of selecting rotations that align with your professional goals.

Meaning that if you know exactly where you want to end up, Nedbank will provide you with the flexibility to explore different areas of the bank that you might be interested in. No two trainees will follow the same route and you never have to feel any pressure as you discover your path through Nedbank.

Nedbank YES Programme

Nedbank said YES to creating youth employment opportunities, building communities and transforming South Africa.
Nedbank has been a proud supporter of the Youth Employment Services (YES) initiative since 2019, and demonstrates Nedbank’s commitment to fostering job creation for the country’s unemployed youth and helping drive a more sustainable and inclusive country.
To date, Nedbank has been the largest contributor among South African banks to participate in this initiative at a large scale, and has supported over 5 000 South African youth in equipping them with skills to either enter the job market or become entrepreneurs.

Our 2024 application period are closed.

What is the YES Programme?
The YES Programme is a business-led collaboration with government to reduce unemployment by providing youth with an opportunity to develop new skills and gain meaningful workplace experience, which will in turn significantly improve their chances of finding long-term future employment.

Who can apply for the Nedbank YES Programme?
South African youth who:

  • are between 18 and 29 years old;
  • have a matric qualification;
  • are currently unemployed;
  • are not studying full-time or part-time;
  • are South African-born African, Coloured or Indian citizens as set out in the BBBEE Act definition of ‘black people’; and
  • have not participated in a YES Programme with another organisation before.

How long will Nedbank YES youth be employed and when will the YES Programme start?
Nedbank YES youth will be employed for 12 months to gain quality work experience. The YES Programme is not a learnership, an internship or an apprenticeship programme.

How much will Nedbank YES youth earn?
Nedbank YES youth receive a monthly stipend guided by the YES Programme. A stipend is monetary support to help an individual pay for living, food and travel-related expenses.

Where will the Nedbank YES Programme work experience take place?
The Nedbank quality work experience programme will be based at Nedbank’s various sites, branches and offices across the country, with some positions allowing for the possibility of working according to a hybrid or remote work model.

Depending on the division, role and job requirement, Nedbank YES youth may be required to work weekdays or according to a shift schedule (which may include weekends and public holidays). This means that YES youth must be able to travel to and from the Nedbank workplace.
