Job Purpose
To identify opportunities and develop strategies that enable the acquisition of new and growth of existing markets in line with Nedbank Strategic objectives, enhancing the Nedbank brand and optimising revenue according to business objectives
Job Responsibilities
Strategy planning and formulation
Structure, plan and lead the delivery of strategic themes for CIB’s long- and short-term strategy process as well as any strategic projects that align with the cluster’s goals and market opportunities
Engage and manage senior stakeholders, and steer content curation for multiple BU strategies and key strategic themes as well as CIB’s overall three-year plan to Board
Lead, facilitate and provide input into brainstorming and working sessions for teams and/or key business unit strategies to ensure delivery of strategic outcomes
Craft the strategic narrative in presentations for executive committee and board review, ensuring alignment to overall strategic narrative and alignment to the Group’s strategy
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on strategic matters
Build and maintain strong working relationships with senior stakeholders across CIB and Group in a way that results in aligned thinking and enhanced delivery
Act as a critical liaison between the CEO’s office, the strategy team and the BUs to streamline communication for various projects and initiatives
Foster innovative approaches to problem-solving, leveraging both data and intuition
Challenge assumptions and conventional thinking to unlock creative solutions
2. Strategic insights
Provide strategic insights and thought leadership through market intelligence and research that assist in delivering on the strategic objectives of the project
Stay abreast of relevant market development and competitor landscape to ensure the CIB’s strategy continually adapts to operating environment
Make use of internal and external client data sources to support evidence-based strategic direction and initiatives
3. Strategic communications and engagement
Elevate the strategic communications pillar by creating awareness and ensuring consistent messaging of CIB’s overarching strategy
Manage the creation of all strategic messaging, presentations, induction materials and leadership communication
Oversee the design, curation and delivery of strategic content for leadership engagements and CIB staff updates, ensuring consistency and alignment with CIB's strategic narrative
Drive and oversee CIB's awards portfolio and process, ensuring alignment to CIB's strategic priorities and providing guidance on the project management of submissions
Manage the awards submissions with business units to prepare and submit award entries to award bodies, ensuring alignment with CIB's strategic narrative and enterprise positioning
Act as a senior liaison between the CEO’s office, the strategy team and the BU’s, coordinating communication and ensuring effective delivery of cross-BU strategic projects and initiatives

4. Strategic execution monitoring and reporting
Lead the Monitoring and Reporting pillar by coordinating the development of high-quality strategic reporting and design, ensuring that CIB's performance reporting is accurate, insightful and timely
Lead enhancements in reporting templates and design standards, ensuring consistency, clarity and alignment with CIB's strategic reporting requirements
Scorecard management - Manage development and consolidation of executive scorecards and strategic KPI’s, to ensure timeous, high-quality deliverables that are aligned with strategic plans and deliverables
Performance monitoring - Lead the reporting on the effectiveness of implemented strategies and initiatives, working with business to communicate and influence adjustments needed to ensure success
Executive and Board reporting - Develop and prepare consolidated strategic progress reports on a regular basis, serving as the lead strategy stakeholder with business on one or more strategic themes or enablers
Design and curate high quality strategic content for interim and full year results analyst presentations, as well as the integrated report
Understand and clearly explain the link between the strategy and financial performance
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification
Bachelor’s degree: BSC, BCOM, BA, Engineering or any other related business or analytical field
Master’s degree in business administration, Economics, Strategy, Finance or related field.
Additional credentials advantageous: CFA, CA, CIMA or relevant strategic/analytical certification
Minimum Experience Level
6-8 years’ experience in analytical and strategic environment within financial services, with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving delivery.
Preferred Exposure and Skills
- Corporate and investment banking and/or strategy consulting experience
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesise complex information
- Advanced research and data-analysis skills with proficiency in analytical tools and frameworks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience developing senior-level strategic content
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-pressure deliverables simultaneously
- Deep understanding of financial and strategic concepts relevant to corporate and investment banking
