Job Purpose

  • To manage and lead a team of Operational Managers and their direct reports to deliver forensic and fraud risk services to mitigate fraud and reputational risk; criminal liability and to ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities

⦁    Monitor cases allocated to the teams, case load and tracking performance progress on dashboard.
⦁    Ensure affidavits submitted to the South African Police Services meet the required quality standards.
⦁    Vet completed investigation reports for complex cases and Risk Escalations
⦁    Ensure team members follow agreed protocol and procedures.
⦁    Regularly engage with stakeholders to provide feedback on fraud and/or industry trends and understand their current business reality, requirements, fraud and regulatory risks and expectations.
⦁    Ensure the sharing of information and knowledge, and collaboration across teams within the Digital and Transactional Fraud Investigation Teams as well as within Group Financial Crime and Forensic Services and other stakeholders during formal and informal meetings.
⦁    Manage stakeholder expectations.
⦁    Provide stakeholder feedback within agreed timelines on escalated and complex cases.
⦁    Maintain and manage relationships with suppliers through engagements.
⦁    Meet transformation targets during staff recruitment, retention and training and use preferred suppliers.
⦁    Contribute to a culture of transformation by participating in Nedbank culture building initiatives, business strategy, and CSI.
⦁    Develop and implement action plans to address issues raised in culture surveys.
⦁    Create a client service culture.

⦁    Mentor and guide the team to achieve operational excellence
⦁    Support the implementation of business optimization improvement.
⦁    Generate and encourage teams to generate innovative ideas and share knowledge.
⦁    Implement performance agreements, ensure a clear vision, agree on goals and objectives, provide regular feedback on performance, recognise and reward achievement and take appropriate corrective action where required.
⦁    Mentor and coach staff on identified performance gaps and agree on appropriate action to be taken.
⦁    Mentor and coach managers on resource management and optimal functionality to ensure excellence in forensic services to all stakeholders. 
⦁    Tailor development needs to ensure that Business Unit stays abreast in field of expertise.
⦁    Engage with team members formally and informally, keep team members informed and encourage participation in decision making processes.
⦁    Identify current and future training and development needs and recruit and manage talent.
⦁    Conduct career conversations and develop talent retention programmes.
⦁    Understand and embrace the Nedbank vision and values, leading by example.
⦁    Provide input into group forensic services strategy and annual business plans.
⦁    Provide input into the compilation of budget for own cost centre, in line with Finance requirements, based on stakeholder agreements and needs, and planned projects and deliverables.
⦁    Ensure proper financing of the function and provide input into the compilation of budget for own cost centre, in line with Finance requirements, based on stakeholder agreements and needs and planned projects and deliverables.
⦁    Ensure that planned projects and deliverables for the year are achieved within planned budget.
⦁    Ensure agreed targets are met and that hours are accounted for and billed as per transfer pricing agreement with stakeholders.
⦁    Manage, control and monitor budget for own cost centre. Manage team’s billable hours captured.

People Specification

Essential Qualifications- NQF Level

  • Bachelor of Commerce: Risk Management / Law / Business Management

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor of Commerce: Risk Management / Law / Business Management (Preference to BCom Honours)

Preferred Certifications

  • Institute of Commercial Forensic Practitioners (ICFP), Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS), Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) - preferred, not essential

Minimum Experience Level

  • 10 years plus experience in banking and/or financial institution and/or forensic and/or other investigations and/or legal environment and 5 years’ experience in managing a team.
