Senior Manager: Credit Risk

Job Purpose

We have an opportunity for a  a Senior Manager with expertise in Credit Risk Management for our Relationship Banking team. 

 

To apply sound credit risk management principles, manage staff involved in early to late-stage collection across various financial products (Current/Savings Accounts, Home Loans, Personal Loans, Asset-Based Finance, term loans, and commercial properties), by minimising risk and impairments and provide client service aligned to Nedbank Strategies.  
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and support direct reports by providing oversight and necessary coaching on processes, credit policy, strategies and/or deliverables.
  • Manage reports through early and daily actioning of tasks and exceptions.
  • Action reports by monitoring, distributing and collating information.
  • Manage and rehabilitate clients by getting backward-roll/cure on arrears and excesses.
  • Ensure all products in relationship banking namely CASA, HL, PL and ABF are actioned in line with process and credit policy.
  • Ensure all risk managers are actioning their work queues on Debt Manager and Vertigo across all products daily.
  • Check and ensure daily required number of Right Party Contact calls are made as required by regulator, process and credit policy.
  • Analyse client information to assess and grant level of risk by interpreting and analysing financial information for Private Clients and Small Business Services within the ambit of banking regulations, process and credit policy.
  • Make correct credit decisions on a consistent basis first time round by complying to service level agreements and within designated credit mandate.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of client needs by providing feedback on application decisions based on Nedbank's risk appetite.
  • Utilise resources by allocating according to business needs.
  • Resolve work challenges by initiating action plans in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Guide, support and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders through formal or informal knowledge sharing.
  • Share knowledge and industry trends with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction. 
  • Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes (e.g., operational processes) that will improve the functioning of stakeholders' businesses by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations. 
  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g., staff surveys etc.) 
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.
  • Identify training courses and career progression through input and feedback from management for self and direct reports.
  • Ensure all personal development plan activities are completed within specified timeframe for self and direct reports.
  • Identify systems and process improvement initiatives by escalating for decisions to relevant stakeholders.  
  • Upskill stakeholders by sharing knowledge on service offerings and client needs.
  • Guide and support internal stakeholders through formal or informal knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders through regular communication and feedback.  
  • Resolve work challenges by initiating action plans in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to policy, procedures and standards enhancement by providing input/suggestions.
  • Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems, process, services and solutions are aligned.
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g. Green Strategy).

Minimum Experience Level

  • 5 - 8 years' experience in credit or risk management and collections experience in a banking environment.
  • 5 - 8 years' People management experience
  • 5 - 8 years' experience in Current Accounts, Home Loans and Asset Based Finance a must

Essential Qualifications – Minimum NQF Level 7

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • National Diploma in Finance or Credit Management
     

Preferred Qualification

  • Degree in Finance / Credit / Banking
  • B.Tech / BComm in Credit Management or B.Comm finance or studying towards a degree in Finance, Banking or Commerce
