Job Purpose

  • To provide strategic leadership in Commercial Banking by driving sales and service excellence, managing risk, growing market share, and delivering an integrated end-to-end client experience through the execution of strategic objectives, while championing and strengthening the Nedbank brand.

Job Responsibilities

      Business Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead the execution of the Commercial Banking regional strategy to achieve sustainable growth, profitability, and market leadership within the region.
  • Translate provincial strategic objectives into regional business plans and ensure successful implementation across all teams and client segments.
  • Drive business performance by monitoring key financial, sales, service, and risk indicators and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Leverage opportunities within the market to enhance business growth, client acquisition, and portfolio expansion.

      Revenue Growth and Market Share

  • Drive regional sales performance to achieve revenue, balance sheet, and profitability targets.
  • Grow market share through the acquisition of new commercial clients and the expansion of existing client relationships.
  • Maximise revenue opportunities through effective cross-selling, upselling, and integrated banking solutions.
  • Identify and unlock strategic growth opportunities within targeted sectors, industries, and geographies.
  • Ensure achievement of Net Interest Income (NII), Non-Interest Revenue (NIR), and other key financial performance indicators.

      Client Leadership and Market Presence

  • Champion a client-centric culture that delivers a differentiated and integrated client experience across the Commercial Banking portfolio.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key clients, industry stakeholders, business partners, and community leaders.
  • Enhance Nedbank's market presence and reputation by acting as a visible ambassador for the brand within the region.
  • Ensure client feedback and satisfaction measures are continuously monitored and translated into improvement initiatives.

      Risk and Governance

  • Provide regional oversight of credit, operational, conduct, regulatory, and reputational risk management.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, governance frameworks, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Drive a strong risk-aware culture that balances risk management with business growth objectives.
  • Ensure effective management of the regional portfolio to maintain portfolio quality and sustainable returns.

  • Ensure the effective execution of business initiatives, projects, and strategic programmes within agreed timelines and governance standards.
  • Drive operational efficiency through resource optimisation, continuous improvement, and effective performance management.
  • Monitor regional productivity and service delivery standards to ensure operational effectiveness and client satisfaction.

      People Leadership and Capability Building

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team of Commercial Banking leaders and specialists.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, client focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive talent management, succession planning, and leadership development to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to strengthen leadership capability and business performance.
  • Ensure employee engagement, diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing objectives are achieved across the region.

      Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive business objectives and collaboration.
  • Influence and align key stakeholders across the matrix structure to support strategic priorities and client outcomes.
  • Facilitate effective communication across business units to ensure alignment with regional and provincial objectives.
  • Represent the region in strategic forums, governance committees, and industry engagements as required.

      Performance Accountability

  • Ensure delivery against agreed business, financial, risk, client, and people metrics.
  • Drive a high-performance culture through rigorous performance management and accountability.
  • Monitor regional performance trends and implement strategic interventions to improve business results.
  • Take overall accountability for the sustainable growth, profitability, and success of the Commercial Banking region.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • Honours Degree (NQF 8), Relevant industry specific qualification in Finance or Sales

Minimum Experience Level

  • Minimum 6 - 8 years experience in Banking or Financial Services Industry.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience at a leadership level, with at least 5 years experience in managing teams.
