Job Purpose

To ensure the maximum recovery of debt to achieve and deliver on Nedbank's strategic priorities, in line with Nedbank business strategy and to motivate the respective teams to optimize collections, resulting in the reduction of credit risks and provisions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Meet financial targets by maximizing the collection of debt.

  • Monthly reporting on the performance of the non-performing loan portfolios to Board and Credit committees.

  • Reduce the cost to collect by optimizing use of all internal resources.

  • Engagement with external service providers to optimize the departmental goals and strategy for collection and recovery of bad debts.

  • Request repossessions and auctioning

  • Procure reporting line team members’ commitment by building interpersonal trust relationships.

  • Establish external suppliers support to enable efficient collection efforts through sound relationship building.

  • Improve performance by setting and monitoring productivity and efficiency targets, identifying problem areas and opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensure that reporting line staff adhere to all governance policies and procedures through continuous auditing and monitoring of their activities and taking corrective action when and where necessary.

  • Reduce business and reputational risk by ensuring compliance with regulatory directives, legal legislation and internal operational standards.

 

Job Responsibilities Continue

  • Identify problems and develop solutions by following sound decision-making procedures.

  • Reporting on departmental aspects and collections processes to department heads and other reporting, governance and management bodies within the set reporting intervals.

  • Achieve objectives to reduce financial risk by managing the performance of team members.

  • Ensure that quality and turnaround standards for customer interactions are achieved by analyzing trends and the planned use of resources.

  • Improve team performance by the setting and monitoring of productivity and efficiency targets, identifying problem areas and opportunities for improvement.

  • Maintain a capable high performing team and ensure an environment for optimal performance is created by identifying a talent pool through conducting career conversations, utilizing the talent grid principles and developing talent retention programs (e.g. rotation).

  • Define, implement, and revise departmental strategies and processes on a regular basis to align with the changing operating environment and industry dynamics.

  • Actively contribute to enhance the culture of the team and Bank by participating in the development and implementation of action plans identified through culture surveys.

  • Knowledge of credit processes and procedures with regards to consumer and wholesale products

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Law and / or Commerce in Accounting & Finance Degree.

  • A relevant professional designation will be an added advantage.

Minimum Experience Level

  • Minimum of five (5) experience in a banking environment, with good working knowledge of legal collections strategies and management.

  • Working and applied knowledge of all BON regulations and Bank legislation.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with strong decision making abilities.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Willing to travel.
