Job Purpose
The SME Banker is responsible for managing relationships with Small and Medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing tailored financial solutions to support their growth and sustainability in Swakopmund/Walvis Bay. The role involves business development, credit assessment, risk management, and advisory services to help SMEs access funding, manage cash flow, and expand their operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify and onboard new SME clients.
- Promote and cross sell banking products such as loans, trade finance, investments and digital solutions.
- Develop strategies to grow the SME banking portfolio.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for SME customers, ensuring excellent customer delivery.
- Provide financial advisory services to help businesses manage cash flow, investments and credit effectively.
- Keep clients informed of progress regarding their applications, queries and requests.
- Position client's financial product requests for approval in line with process and procedure.
- Stay updated on SME industry trends, economic changes, and competitor activities.
- Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles.
- Ensure adherence to banking regulations, internal policies, and risk management guidelines.
- Proactively engage clients in a manner that is relevant to their specific circumstances.
- Collaborate with specialists in client engagements to cross sell and create value-based solutions.
- Ensure work is completed to agreed principles, process and procedures; progress reviewed, and corrective action taken where necessary.
People Specification
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of SME Financial needs, credit assessment and risk analysis
- Business Development: Ability to identify and onboard new SME Clients while growing the existing relationship
- Credit and Risk Assessment: Proficiency in evaluating financial statements, assessing creditworthiness, and structuring loans
- Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain long term relationships with SME clients
- Negotiations and Sales Skills: Ability to pitch banking products and services effectively to SMEs
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiar with Banking regulations, SME financing guidelines, ad industry compliance standards
- Tech-Savviness: Knowledge of digital banking tools, financial software, and SME- fintech solutions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced and target driven environment
- A proactive and customer focused mindset
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification
- Degree Business Administration majoring in Accounting, Finance, Banking, or Business Management
Minimum Experience Level
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a banking environment, two (2) of which as a Relationship Banker.
- Proven experience in Retail Banking, SME Banking or Business Banking
- Experience in credit analysis, lending, or financial advisory for SMEs
- Strong track record in business development and client relationship management
