Job Purpose

To originate, structure, and sell equity‑focused structured investment and derivative solutions to South African institutional clients, while maintaining the capability to operate across multiple asset classes including rates, credit, FX, and cross‑asset structures.

The role will also support the development, distribution, and execution of Nedbank’s retail structured products initiatives, working closely with internal distribution channels and product partners to scale structured investment solutions into the retail and wealth segments, aligned with Nedbank’s Markets strategy and risk framework.

 

The role is responsible for driving revenue growth through deep client engagement, innovative structuring, and disciplined execution, aligned with Nedbank’s Markets strategy and risk framework.

Job Responsibilities

  • Originate and execute structured investment and derivative solutions for institutional clients, with a primary focus on equity derivatives, while retaining the ability to structure and sell multi‑asset solutions where appropriate.
  • Drive revenue growth from existing and new institutional clients through proactive sales coverage, idea generation, and solution‑based selling.
  • Identify, design, and sell equity‑linked and cross‑asset structures, including (but not limited to):
    • Equity‑Linked Notes (ELNs)
    • Options, collars, call/put spreads, autocalls and bespoke equity payoffs
    • Index‑linked and single‑stock solutions
    • Hybrid and cross‑asset structures incorporating rates, credit, or FX where relevant to client objectives
  • Lead institutional client discussions across:
    • Equity market views and portfolio positioning
    • Yield enhancement and income generation
    • Risk management and hedging strategies across asset classes
  • Partner closely with structuring, trading, legal, risk, finance, and operations teams to deliver end‑to‑end transaction execution.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of client investment mandates, constraints, and regulatory considerations, and tailor solutions accordingly.
  • Contribute to the development of differentiated equity‑led and multi‑asset structured products, responding to evolving market and client needs.
  • Actively participate in cross‑asset collaboration and cross‑selling initiatives within Global Markets.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with internal policies, legal frameworks, and external regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold Nedbank’s integrity by delivering solutions with due skill, care, diligence, and a strong risk‑centric mindset.
  • Support a high‑performance, client‑centric sales culture aligned with the Markets Culture Manifesto.
  • Retail Structured products:
    • Support the origination, structuring, and rollout of retail structured products, including retail‑focused Equity‑Linked Notes and other structured investment solutions distributed via Nedbank Wealth, private banking, and approved third‑party channels.
    • Partner with internal stakeholders across Retail, Wealth, Structuring, Trading, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to deliver scalable, compliant retail structured products.
    • Contribute to product ideation, payoff design, and pricing for retail‑appropriate structures, ensuring alignment with client suitability, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist with retail distributor engagement, including product training, presentations, and ongoing support to ensure clear understanding of product features, risks, and market dynamics.
    • Support execution, lifecycle management, and post‑issuance engagement on retail structured notes, including rollovers, switches, and secondary market considerations where applicable.

Essential Qualification - NQF Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.

Preferred Qualification

  • Honours or Master’s degree in Mathematical Finance, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, or equivalent
  • CFA, FRM, or similar professional qualification (advantageous but not required)

Preferred Certifications

  • Relevant market and regulatory qualifications applicable to South African financial markets.

Minimum Experience Level

  • 5–8 years’ experience in financial markets, with:
    • Strong exposure to equity derivatives and structured products
    • Broader experience or working knowledge across multiple asset classes
    • Proven front‑office, client‑facing institutional sales experience
    • Demonstrated involvement in pricing, structuring, and executing derivative solutions

    • Interest rate derivatives
    • Credit‑linked and funding structures
    • FX and cross‑asset solutions
  • Client‑facing origination and execution
  • Product structuring and pricing across asset classes
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with trading, structuring, legal, risk, and finance
  • Long‑term relationship management with large South African institutional clients
  • Exposure to retail and wealth‑distributed structured investment products, including collaboration 

Technical / Professional Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of equity markets and equity derivatives
  • Solid working knowledge of multi‑asset derivatives, including rates, credit, and FX
  • Structured products design and payoff analysis
  • Derivatives pricing concepts and risk management principles
  • Institutional portfolio construction considerations
  • Financial market regulations and compliance frameworks
  • Macroeconomic and cross‑asset market analysis
  • Strong quantitative and analytical capability
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint essential)
  • Understanding of retail structured products structuring , pricing, governance, suitability, and distribution considerations.
