Job Purpose

We are seeking a Strategy Analytics Manager to join the Strategy function within Operations, Collections, Recoveries, and Compliance (OCR) at Nedbank. This role is responsible for translating data into strategic insight, leveraging advanced analytics to shape, optimise, and continuously refine end-to-end client and portfolio strategies. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior leadership to drive data-led decisioning, performance optimisation, and value creation across operations, collections, and recoveries. The role requires a strong blend of analytical rigour, strategic thinking, and consulting capability, with the ability to influence outcomes at an executive level.Exceptional storytelling, insight translation, and executive-level PowerPoint development are critical to success.

Job Responsibilities

Strategy Analytics & Insight Generation

  • Analyse complex portfolio, customer, and operational data to identify key risk drivers, performance levers, and value opportunities across the credit lifecycle.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques (e.g., segmentation, modelling, forecasting) to support strategic decision-making and optimisation of collections and recovery strategies.
  • Build and maintain data-driven frameworks to enable proactive portfolio monitoring and early identification of emerging risks and opportunities.

 

Strategy Development & Optimisation

  • Develop and refine end-to-end data-driven strategies to improve efficiency, optimise recoveries, minimise impairments, and enhance customer outcomes.
  • Design and implement champion/challenger frameworks to test, validate, and continuously improve strategic interventions across the delinquency lifecycle.
  • Translate analytics into clear, actionable strategies aligned to business objectives and regulatory requirements.

 

Operational Performance & Delivery

  • Provide analytical oversight of operational channels (call centres, digital, and External Debt Collectors), ensuring performance tracking against targets, SLAs, and strategic outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, contact strategies, and channel effectiveness through data insights.
  • Drive initiatives to optimize cash collections, rehabilitation rates, and recovery yields, including legal and EDC channel performance.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Implementation

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Operations, Risk, Product, Finance) to embed analytics into decision-making and strategy execution.
  • Translate complex data and modelling outputs into clear, executive-level insights and recommendations.
  • Influence and support the implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business priorities and measurable outcomes.

 

Reporting, Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and enhance automated reporting, dashboards, and data pipelines to improve visibility and decision speed.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data quality, reporting accuracy, and analytical capability.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies, using insights to refine and optimise performance outcomes.

 

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all strategies and analytics align with regulatory requirements, governance standards, and risk frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance compliance processes through data and analytics-driven insights.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • Master’s degree (advantageous)

Minimum Experience Level

  • 5–7 years’ experience in analytics-driven strategy, credit risk, or management consulting within financial services.
  • 3–5 years’ experience leading or managing analytical or strategy teams/projects.
  • Proven track record in collections, recoveries, or credit lifecycle optimisation.

 

Skills:

  • Advanced analytical capability with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data sets.
  • Strong problem-solving and structured thinking skills, with a focus on root-cause analysis and value identification.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complexity for executive audiences.
  • Ability to translate strategy into execution, working effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • High level of commercial acumen with a focus on driving financial outcomes (e.g., impairment reduction, recovery optimisation).

 

Technical Knowledge:

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, SAS, Python, or R
  • Data visualisation tools: Power BI, Tableau
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint capability (executive-level outputs)
  • Understanding of credit risk, collections, recoveries, and NPL management
  • Knowledge of process optimisation and process mining
  • Familiarity with South African regulatory frameworks (NCA, compliance standards)
  • Strong grounding in data analysis, financial management, and strategy execution
