Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategy Specialist to join our dynamic team within the Operations, Collections, Recoveries and Compliance realm at Nedbank OCR. The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team to develop, refine and implement strategies, initiatives and process optimisation. This position demands a deep understanding of the financial industry, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record in strategic consulting. Exceptional storytelling and PowerPoint pack development is key requirement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse market trends, competitor activities, and customer behaviour to identify opportunities and risks in the prevention, collections, and recovery processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse market trends, competitor activities, and customer behaviour to identify opportunities in the Operations, loan disbursement and client servicing department.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies to enhance efficiency, minimize risks, and improve customer experience within the specified domains.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis, modelling, and research to support strategic decision-making processes.
  •  Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive the implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance and recommendations based on industry best practices and emerging trends.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies, adjusting as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports and presentations to senior management, communicating complex.
  • Designing and implementing data driven collection and rehabilitation strategies for secured assets across the lifecycle.
  • Developing "champion/challenger" models to test and refine collections strategies across the account delinquency lifecycle.
  • Overseeing operational channels reporting—including call centres, digital collections, and External Debt Collectors (EDC)—to meet monthly targets and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Analyse portfolio-level data to identify risk factors, diagnose root causes, and propose actionable solutions, including code optimisation and reporting automation ideas and strategies in a clear and concise manner.
  • Understand Banking Compliance process and opportunity for enhancement.
  • Managing Non-Performing Loans (NPL) and maximizing net yield from recovery, including managing External Debt Collectors (EDCs) and legal channels.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all strategies align with South African regulatory and legal frameworks

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics,  Sciences, Business, Credit Risk or Related Field.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience Level

  • 5 – 7 years of experience in Credit, Strategy or Strategic Consulting
  • Management experience as part of the above years: 3 - 5 years
  • Expertise: Proven expertise in prevention, collections, and recovery strategies within financial institutions.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with a focus on simplifying complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and lead strategic initiatives to successful completion.
  • Proficiency in using analytical tools and software for data analysis and modelling.
