Job Purpose

To develop, maintain and reground best practice pricing and profitability models, including strategies in line with regulations (where applicable) to facilitate world class risk management and attainment of strategic objectives. Provide input into strategic objectives and ensure delivery thereof.

Job Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility and accountability of the pricing and profitability model, pertaining to, but not limited to the development, annual reground, approval, back-testing, validation and benchmarking to ensure models remain robust, fit-for-purpose and compliant with model risk management standards.
  • Establish monitoring reports to track model stability, pricing effectiveness, profitability outcomes and emerging performance risks, recommending corrective actions where required.
  • Seek opportunities to optimize business processes; pricing and profitability models and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank across the credit life-cycle, but with focus on pricing and profitability
  • Contribute to the development of differentiated; superior solutions (solution engineering) that meet stakeholder and business requirements through analysis; business requirements gathering and designs validation for market related pricing, but also with profitability considerations at a product and client level across secured and unsecured lending
  • Ensure pricing for product and the solution design thereof, considerate of client centricity, is congruent with the required business specifications through meeting stakeholder requirements timeously and aligned to the Group Pricing policy
  • Enable the realisation of the financial business benefits accruing including minimisation of operational costs by ensuring that pricing solutions are implemented effectively.
  • Ensure accuracy through analysis and research by updating model assumptions/parameters accurately, aligned to financial forecasts and historic behaviour, annually for the model reground. This will include obtaining Governance approval from Credit Governance Committees and Technical Forums.
  • Liaise with Product, Finance, Risk and Business stakeholders to deliver actionable insights, commercial recommendations and scenario analyses that inform strategic decision-making and innovation initiatives
  • Impact business strategy through collating data and by creating reports that serve as a strategic decision-making tool for pricing points across the credit life-cycle and the profitability at a product and client level
  • Enhance business requirements by analysing data and monitoring processes. Ensure business process consistency through formal communication; updating and maintaining policies.
  • Take corrective action where risk is identified in any processes; models or reporting; through analysis and formal communication. Improve customer experience; create and maintain pricing and profitability strategies through data analysis, impacting credit application strategies and the financial statements
  • Credit Risk exceptions by analysing data to support the achievement of the business strategy; objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems; process; services and solutions are aligned.
  • Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced design for pricing, profitability, customer value and portfolio optimisation models using advanced analytical/machine learning techniques that will improve the functioning of stakeholders' businesses by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • Post graduate degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Finance, CFA/ FRM/ CQF

Minimum Experience Level

  • 6 years relevant analytical experience in the financial industry
  • Proficiency in SAS, SQL, or Python.
