Job Purpose

To be the custodian of technical thought leadership within Group Technology (GT) environment by providing expertise, guidance and advice that relates to the integration of solutions across multiple technologies, and the supporting-processes such that GT is able to deliver sustainable and quality solutions in alignment to the overall strategy of the Bank whilst growing the technical expertise within the organisation.

Job Responsibilities

• Extensive architecture and design experience in complex, distributed environments within large heterogeneous IT environments
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience with architecture and design patterns
• Extensive Cloud experience (Azure preferred)
• Work closely with the Enterprise Architect to establish the future direction of the technology environment and lead its implementation
• Defining architecture and design patterns, methods, practices
• Perform technology proof of concepts, R&D, etc
• Drive the engineering practice, establish frameworks, patterns, methodologies, and lead the maturing of these across the tribe engineering team
• Provide guidance to the engineering team
• Using advanced tooling and capability to automate, improve efficiency, etc. of taking code from idea to production. One person engineering/delivery
• Define system architecture, design, patterns, etc.
• Cloud Computing: Understanding cloud services and architecture, specifically Azure
• Develop critical and complex technical components. (Core platform components)
• Experience architecting and designing high volume distributed systems in a complex heterogeneous technology environment
• Experience working in environment delivering large complex initiatives
• Proven track record of technical deliveries who understands the big picture, while being able to deep dive into technical details
• Highly experienced and influential senior technologist with deep technical knowledge and an understanding of diverse methodologies and best practices
• Demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently. This includes analytical thinking and a systematic approach to problem-solving
• Ensure transition to the future mode of operation by participating in shaping the enterprise architecture roadmap through consulting, identifying and collaborating with stakeholders
• Ensure alignment to Nedbank environment and legislative requirements by reviewing and providing advice on product or technology specific standards
• Perform independent research on technology best practice
• Identify individuals that could perform a specialist role and actively participate in their development
• Participate in industry forums and keep up to date with emerging technologies
• Manage the technical specialist career stream
• Provide coaching, mentoring and upskilling of others within area of expertise
• Support the achievement of the  business strategy, objectives and values
• Stay abreast of developments in field of expertise 
• Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities
• Contribute to the Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).
• Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy
• Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models and systems though agile thinking

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

Preferred Qualification

Relevant technical qualification/ certification or equivalent experience
Matric with Maths

Minimum Experience Level

Min 15 years experience in an IT environment across infrastructures of which at least 5 years as Technology Domain Specialist II at Nedbank.
