Job Purpose
Responsible for designing and implementing strategies to recover maximum value from secured assets (such as home loans, vehicle asset finance, or commercial assets) linked to distressed debt. These roles focus on high-value portfolios, optimizing impairment performance, and utilizing data-driven methodologies to manage risk within banking and financial services environments.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategy Development:
- Designing and implementing data driven collection and rehabilitation strategies for secured assets across the lifecycle.
- Developing "champion/challenger" models to test and refine collections strategies across the account delinquency lifecycle.
- Overseeing operational channels reporting—including call centres, digital collections, and External Debt Collectors (EDC)—to meet monthly targets and service level agreements (SLAs)
- Analyse portfolio-level data to identify risk factors, diagnose root causes, and propose actionable solutions, including code optimisation and reporting automation.
- Asset Recovery & Rehabilitation: Spearheading the Strategies for recovery of secured assets (immovable or tangible) to ensure maximum value extraction from non-performing loans (NPL)
- Performance Optimization: Driving efficiency in collections by reducing roll-forward rates (preventing accounts from moving to later stages of delinquency).
- Data Analytics: Using data, SQL, R, Python, and AWS to analyze portfolio risk and create predictive models for collection outcomes.
- Portfolio Management: Managing Non-Performing Loans (NPL) and maximizing net yield from recovery, including managing External Debt Collectors (EDCs) and legal channels.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all strategies align with South African regulatory and legal frameworks
- Communicate complex technical insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification
- Honours Degree or equivalent in BCom (Maths, Stats, or Finance), Economics, Actuarial Science, or BSc Engineering.
Minimum Experience Level
- A minimum of 5–10 years in credit risk, collections & recovery, with specific experience in secured lending (e.g., Home Loans, VAF).
- Technical Skills: Advanced analytics skills (SQL, Python, R, Excel) and experience with champion/challenger strategy testing.
