Job Purpose

The Senior Manager: Digital Enablement (Card) is responsible for enabling and delivering digital capabilities across the end-to-end credit and to an extent transactional card value chain. This role ensures the successful enablement of product features, functionality, and digital experiences across customer onboarding, card issuance and delivery, digital payments, and servicing. The role acts as a strategic bridge between business, technology, operations, and risk, ensuring that card product strategies are translated into scalable digital capabilities. The incumbent will lead cross-functional teams to enable innovation, accelerate delivery of card features, and support the growth and sustainability of the bank’s card portfolio. This role also provides Leadership to a highly experienced team, leveraging deep institutional knowledge while building future digital capabilities required to support the evolving payments ecosystem.

Job Responsibilities

1. Digital Enablement & Strategy Execution

  •  Enable the execution of the digital card strategy by translating business objectives into executable digital capabilities.
  • Drive the enablement of product features and functionality across the end-to-end card value chain, including:
    • Digital onboarding and card acquisition
    • Card issuance, activation, and delivery
    • Digital payments (contactless, tokenisation, wallets, online payments)
    • Customer servicing and lifecycle management
  • Support the delivery of future-state card capabilities that drive growth, scalability, and customer experience improvements.
  • Ensure alignment between card product strategy, digital platforms, and technology roadmaps.

 

2. Card Value Chain Management

  • Maintain a holistic view of the end-to-end card ecosystem, including systems, tech, processes, and dependencies.
  • Identify and remove operational or technical constraints that impact the enablement of new card capabilities.
  • Ensure seamless integration across card platforms, digital channels, payment networks, and supporting systems.

 

3. Business, Technology & Delivery Integration

  • Act as the key interface between business, technology, and strategic initiatives within the card portfolio.
  • Translate product requirements into technology enablement roadmaps and delivery plans.
  • Work closely with product, technology, operations, and delivery teams to accelerate time-to-market for new features and functionality.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of digital initiatives across card platforms and channels.

 

4. Risk, Compliance & Fraud Oversight

  • Ensure that all digital enablement initiatives adhere to regulatory, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Work closely with risk, fraud, and compliance teams to ensure appropriate controls are embedded into card capabilities.
  • Support the implementation of fraud prevention mechanisms and risk mitigation strategies across the card ecosystem.

 

5. Data & Performance Enablement

  • Leverage data insights and analytics to support decision-making and optimise the card customer journey.
  • Monitor performance of digital card capabilities to ensure operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth.
  • Enable data-driven improvements across the card lifecycle.

 

6. Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead and manage a highly experienced team with an average of approximately 25 years of experience per team member across the card portfolio.
  • Create an environment that maximises the expertise and institutional knowledge within the team.
  • Develop and grow team capabilities to support evolving digital payments, technology, and card platform innovations.
  • Drive collaboration across teams to deliver high-impact outcomes and strategic initiatives.

People Specification

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, BCom IS, Engineering, Digital / Technology / Business Studies. 
  • Post Graduate degree would be an advantage

Minimum Experience Level

  • 5–10+ years’ experience in cards, payments, digital banking, or financial services.
  • Proven experience in card product enablement, payments ecosystems, or digital banking platforms.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end card value chain, including onboarding, issuance, payments, and servicing.
  • Experience working across business, technology, and delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing highly skilled and experienced teams.
