Job Purpose

To provide proactive professional legal advice and risk management services to internal clients to mitigate the bank's legal risk, with a specific focus on home loans.  Further, to provide legal support for all Nedbank branches.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the Retail Homeloans portfolio from a legal perspective, this will include supporting all divisions of the Homeloans team, for example Sales, Credit and Recoveries.  
  • Provide legal advice and support specifically in the area of home loans.
  • Handle queries from conveyancers and make ultimate decisions on conveyancing matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, particularly in the banking sector.
  • Foster good relationships and promote business understanding by engaging in effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to date with legal developments and conveying same to the Homeloans business community.
  • Conducting ad hoc training for Business and other stakeholders.
  • Achieve goals and objectives by understanding and embracing the Nedbank vision and demonstrating the Nedbank values through interaction with team and stakeholders.
  • Improve personal capability and stay abreast of developments in the field of expertise by identifying training courses and career progression opportunities for self with input from management.
  • Support personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed; experience gained and certifications obtained within specified time frames.
  • Maintain knowledge management and improve team success by sharing knowledge with team and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives.
  • Achieve key business strategies by participating and supporting corporate social responsibility initiatives.
  • Add value to Nedbank by identifying and recommending opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and policies and support implementation of new processes, policies, and systems.

Minimum Experience Level

  • 8 years post-admission experience, with at least 2 years in a banking environment or working with banking matters.
  • Preferably 1 year +Conveyancing experience

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree

Preferred Qualification

  • (LL.B) Post Graduate Degree
