Job Purpose

This role reports to the Group Marketing Strategy, Data Management Office. It supports the data governance objectives of Group Marketing through a mature data stewardship competency, ensuring that relevant, high-quality data is available in a timely manner for various analytical and business processes.

The Data Analyst is responsible for understanding the business requirements for data, the related data flows, business processes, and systems that generate the required data for Marketing audiences. The role involves implementing Nedbank’s data management standards throughout the data lifecycle, including ingestion, transformation, retention, archiving, and destruction.

The Data Analyst oversees data governance control processes, from data collection to ingestion and provisioning. The goal is to enable the provisioning of data in forms that facilitate further analytical processing, support decision-making processes, and provide business insights, thereby advancing the enterprise data management maturity strategy.

Additionally, the role requires effective communication with the broader team of data specialists to foster collaboration and maintain high standards of ownership and work ethic.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis activities across various squads/value chains where required concerning practices around Metadata, Master and Reference Data, Data Privacy, Data Sharing via acceptable data security standards and patterns.    
  • Liaise with various business stakeholders to elicit and understand data requirements and translate them into technical data management tasks, aligning efforts with business needs. When evaluating business requirements acts as liaison between data owner and data consumers to ensure business value is derived.
  • Support audit processes where required
  • Identify Business data quality concerns, conducts root cause analysis, and provides feedback to the relevant stakeholders data management forum 
  • Responsible for unpacking, maintenance and/or development of the data journey: analysing data flows, data transformation rules,  data classification, technical and business metadata stitching and extractions,  data lineage development, data quality requirements, data privacy and security adherence. 
  • Make data-driven recommendations for data remediation around provisioning enhancements (data cleansing, transformation, and validation, protection) based on discovery insights. 
  • Create documentation incorporating findings to motivate implementation of data controls, data remediation and presentation at respective data governance forums.   
  • Drive understanding of the purpose, behaviour, and user interactions with the data to optimize data governance and data management knowledge overall. 
  • Ensure data analysis deliverables are delivered according to project plan timelines to meet commitment to stakeholders.     
  • Collaborate with various teams including Data Modelers, Data Engineers, Data Architects, other Data Management Centres of Excellence, and Technical Product owner, to align data discovery insights and implement complex data solutions.     
  • Ensure that proposed data outcomes adhere to regulatory requirements, maintaining compliance with all relevant data policies, privacy standards, and ownership guidelines    
  • Utilization of data discovery, profiling and quality monitoring tools to enhance the data integrity
  • Execute advanced SQL queries and other technical analyses to support data investigation and reporting.    
  • Support the achievement of the banks Data and Business strategy and objectives, by aligned priority to Business targets where necessary 
  • Contribute to the Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).    
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy    
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve business processes, models and systems though agile thinking.    
  • Provide Overall Data Management Guidance and alignment to Nedbank's Data Management framework and standards    
  • Participate in cross-functional data reviews to support data objectives
  • Keep abreast with industry development on data management 
  • Share data management related knowledge, resources and practices with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction to enable up-skilling.
  • Ensure the implementation of Data management policies while executing that services in projects or daily business operations in all cluster data domains 

People Specification

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

Bachelor of Commerce: Accounting , Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Minimum Experience Level

Total number of years of experience: 4-6 Years
