Job Purpose

  • To provide strategic compliance leadership across the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Compliance portfolio, ensuring that all business activities operate within the legal, regulatory, and internal policy framework
  • To provide independent oversight, advisory support, and challenge on regulatory, conduct and operational compliance risks across all CIB business functions
  • To proactively identify emerging regulatory developments, assessing their impact on business activities, and driving appropriate risk mitigation.
  • To lead engagement with regulators, senior executives, auditors, and internal governance structures, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical decision‑making.
  • To be a strategic partner to CIB leadership, enabling responsible growth in cross‑border activities
  • To set direction for Compliance operations, translate strategy into executable plans, and ensure disciplined delivery across regions and products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage regulatory, conduct, and compliance risks.
  • Interpret and advise on complex and specialised regulatory requirements
  • Proactively identify emerging risks relevant to CIB products, services, transactions, and markets
  • Drive a strong culture of ethical conduct and regulatory adherence
  • Ensure transparent reporting, timely issue resolution, and readiness for regulatory reviews
  • Drive a robust compliance training and communication programme tailored to CIB’s risk profile.
  • Equip business teams with the knowledge to identify compliance risks independently
  • Prepare compliance dashboards, regulatory risk profiles, heatmaps, and management information for CIB leadership and Group executives.
  • Use data insights to drive risk-informed decision‑making and continuous improvement of the compliance programme.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing compliance team with strong subject‑matter expertise across products and jurisdictions
  • Champion adoption of digital tools that improve efficiency, accuracy, and predictive risk identification while maintaining regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrate strong digital literacy and champion digital transformation initiatives within the Compliance function
  • Coordinate compliance operational support across African subsidiaries, branches, and representative offices.
  • Serve as the primary support to the Head of Compliance for all operational, governance, strategic, and administrative matters
  • Assist the compliance function to set an annual budget
  • Maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships                     
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the team across the HR value chain including recruitment, performance management, retention of critical staff and succession planning.
  • Contribute to a culture of transformation by participating in Nedbank culture building initiatives, business strategy, and Corporate Social Initiatives (CSI).
  • Participate in developing, implementing and addressing issues raised in culture surveys to improve results.
  • Ensure transformational targets are met.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Certifications

  • Compliance Institute of South Africa (CISA) - preferred, not essential

Minimum Experience Level

  • 8+ years appropriate and relevant experience;
  • 3-5 years Corporate and Investment Banking Compliance experience
