Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).
  • Research and make recommendations for corporate citizenship initiatives in area of influence
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g.. Green Strategy).
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes; models and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.
  • Contribute to the development of differentiated; superior solutions (solution engineering) that meet stakeholder and business requirements through analysis.

  • Support the achievement of the business strategy; objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems; process; services and solutions are aligned.Improve personal capability and stay abreast of developments in field of expertise by identifying training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from managers.
  • Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed; experience practiced and certifications obtained and/or maintained within specified time frames.

Data Engineering & Pipeline Support

  • Develop, maintain, and support ETL/ELT processes using SSIS, SQL stored procedures, and SAS (where applicable).
  • Create and maintain SQL Server database objects, including tables, views, functions, and stored procedures.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of data ingestion, transformation, scheduling, and monitoring processes.
  • Support the implementation of data loading and transformation routines in accordance with established standards and best practices.
  • Participate in data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and validation activities.

Data Quality & Governance

  • Perform data quality checks to identify and resolve data issues relating to completeness, accuracy, duplication, and consistency.
  • Maintain documentation for datasets, processes, and data pipelines.
  • Support adherence to data governance, security, and change management standards.
  • Assist with testing and validation activities during deployments and releases.

Operational Support & Reliability

  • Monitor scheduled data processes and investigate failures or data anomalies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving pipeline, data, and reporting issues.
  • Support ongoing maintenance activities to ensure data availability and process reliability.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior team members where appropriate.

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Work closely with analysts, data engineers, model developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
  • Contribute to Agile delivery activities, including sprint planning, refinement, estimation, and retrospectives.
  • Participate in peer reviews, testing activities, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance existing processes and solutions.

Learning & Development

  • Build and develop technical skills across SQL Server, SSIS, SAS, and emerging cloud-based data technologies.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, data engineering practices, and platform enhancements.
  • Seek opportunities to improve technical capability and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Postgraduate qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Financial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, CQF, or equivalent quantitative and risk-focused credentials will be advantageous

Minimum Experience Level

  • Graduate or up to 2 years of relevant experience in Quantitative Analysis, Data Analytics, Risk Analytics, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
