Job Purpose

To oversee advice quality, intermediary services, and FAIS compliance within a short-term insurance intermediary business by ensuring that representatives, processes, and controls meet regulatory, conduct, and governance requirements. The role safeguards client outcomes, licence obligations, and business reputation while enabling compliant and sustainable commercial growth within the broker channel. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance standards are met and risks are mitigated as identified by compliance audits
  • Ensure that compliance risk is adequately addressed and corrective actions is adhered to by the risk advisors.
  • Influence the enhancement of business processes and methodologies as it relates to the broker channel     Prevent compliance breaches and reputational risk from occurring, which could result in financial penalties. 
  • Engage with stakeholders; Head of Staff Assisted, Head of Technical and First Line of Defence on findings of compliance risk and KI audits for broker channel.
  • Enable management to make informed decisions and prevent compliance breeches.
  • Ensure that stakeholder relationships are effectively managed.
  • Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes that will improve the functioning of broker channel.
  • Stay abreast of developments in field of expertise, ensuring personal and professional growth.
  • Understand and embrace the Nedbank vision and values, leading by example.
  • Ensure the brokerage maintains adequate and appropriate oversight over all representatives rendering advice or intermediary services
  • Ensure that representatives are correctly registered on the FAIS register for the applicable product categories and offerings.
  • Monitor representatives working under supervision and ensure that supervision plans, review evidence, coaching, and sign-offs are completed within prescribed timelines.
  • Oversee the quality of advice provided by commercial insurance representatives, with specific focus on client needs analysis, suitability of recommendations, disclosures, record of advice, and replacement advice.
  • Review sampled advice files, call recordings, policy documentation, quotations, needs analyses, and client communications to confirm compliance with advice standards.
  • Ensure that representatives provide appropriate advice aligned to client risk exposures, business operations, product suitability, affordability, and policy terms.
  • Monitor adherence to Treating Customers Fairly principles and ensure fair client outcomes are evidenced across the advice journey.
  • Identify trends, systemic weaknesses, poor advice practices, or recurring conduct risks and ensure corrective action is implemented.
  • Review high-risk cases, automatic failures, complaints, policy replacements, complex commercial placements, and material advice deviations.
  • Ensure that remediation actions, coaching interventions, rework, and client rectification are completed and evidenced
  • Provide formal Key Individual attestations on the adequacy of oversight, controls, representative competence, and adherence to FAIS requirements.
  • Review complaints, regulatory incidents, advice failures, client detriment matters, and potential breaches linked to commercial insurance representatives.
  • Ensure that root causes are identified and that corrective action addresses both the individual case and any systemic control weakness.
