Job Purpose

We are looking for a Junior Data Scientist that will help us discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even better products. Your primary focus will be in applying data manipulation techniques for large datasets, doing statistical and predictive analysis, developing and implementing machine learning techniques and building high quality recommendation systems integrated with our products to discover and communicate trends and insights.

Job Responsibilities

  • Learn and implement appropriate programming language (R; Python; SQL) to investigate and solve business problems through data
  • Represent and communicate findings/results through data visualisation techniques
  • Derive actionable insights from preliminary client data investigations in an agile manner
  • Perform clustering techniques to subset client data into demographics useful to business
  • Fitting appropriate machine learning models to obtain distributions of products and identify impactful factors
  • Use classification techniques and predictive strategies to pre-empt future client behaviours
  • Utilize optimization techniques to enhance decision making (e.g. profit maximization), and implementing the above using qualitative data to enhance client experience
  • Dashboards - building frameworks to make metrics available to non-analytical business units
  • Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
  • Develop interpersonal and business communication skills
  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear, insightful and actionable manner
  • To remain agile/versatile as business needs may change and develop rapidly

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

BSc Statistics and Applied Mathematics, BSc Computer Science (with Statistical computing skills) or relevant statistical/quantitative based field of study

    0 – 3 years of quantitative analytics/data science experience
