Job Purpose

The Infrastructure Designer is accountable for the end-to-end design, governance, and architectural assurance of secure, resilient, and compliant cloud and hybrid infrastructure solutions within Nedbank’s Movement of Value environment.

This role is pivotal to cloud adoption, payment system modernisation, and regulatory compliance, ensuring that innovation is delivered within Nedbank’s defined risk appetite, security posture, and operational resilience standards. The Infrastructure Designer acts as a trusted design authority, balancing engineering enablement with control, assurance, and long-term sustainability

Job Responsibilities

Infrastructure Architecture Ownership

• Own and define infrastructure architecture designs aligned to Nedbank enterprise standards, reference architectures, and strategic roadmaps
• Ensure design consistency across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments

Cloud, Hybrid & Data Centre Integration

• Design scalable and secure cloud, hybrid, and data centre infrastructure solutions
• Define integration patterns covering networking, identity, compute, storage, and platform services

Security, Risk & Compliance by Design

• Embed security, risk, and regulatory controls by design, ensuring compliance with banking, payments, and data protection requirements
• Partner closely with Risk, Security, and Compliance functions throughout the design lifecycle

Operational Resilience & Availability

• Design infrastructure to meet availability, performance, disaster recovery, and recoverability requirements for critical banking platforms
• Ensure alignment with Nedbank resilience frameworks and regulatory expectations

Cloud Governance, Cost & Financial Controls

• Design infrastructure aligned to cloud financial management (FinOps) principles
• Ensure cost transparency, optimisation, and governance for cloud consumption

Delivery Assurance & Controlled Engineering Enablement

• Provide architectural assurance across delivery initiatives, enabling teams while maintaining control
• Review and approve infrastructure designs, deviations, and risk treatments

Architecture Governance & Design Authority

• Act as a design authority within formal architecture governance forums
• Support architecture reviews, risk assessments, and executive decision-making processes

Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory

• Engage with business, technology, risk, and delivery stakeholders as a trusted infrastructure advisor
• Clearly articulate design decisions, trade-offs, and risk implications

Investment Approval (IA) Preparation & Costing Enquiries

• Support investment approval submissions, including infrastructure design justification and cost estimates
• Respond to costing and feasibility enquiries with clarity and accuracy

Technical & Domain Skills

• Strong experience designing enterprise-scale infrastructure within Nedbank or equivalent large financial institutions
• Deep expertise in:
• Cloud networking, segmentation, and identity management
• Secure compute, storage, and backup solutions
• Hybrid connectivity and data centre integration
• Hands-on experience implementing control-driven cloud environments aligned to banking standards

Risk & Architecture Capability

• Strong understanding of technology risk management in a regulated banking environment
• Proven experience working with:
• Formal architecture governance structures
• Risk assessments, risk referrals, and control validation
• Internal Audit and Regulatory stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to design for non-functional requirements, including:
• Security
• Resilience and high availability
• Disaster recovery and recoverability
• Regulatory and compliance obligations

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

Essential Certifications

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
• TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
• Cloud security certifications such as CCSP or CISSP (advantageous)

Minimum Experience Level

8–12+ year in an IT environment. At least 2 years in a infrastructure specialised environment (WINTEL, UNIX, MAINFRAME) with design experience or cloud architecture
