Job Purpose
Lead the Group Tax Compliance and Reporting function by setting strategic direction, embedding governance and ensuring accurate, complete and timely delivery of income tax, VAT, deferred tax, tax accounting and related reporting obligations.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide assurance and insight on tax compliance, tax accounting, tax provisions, SARS matters and key control issues to the Executive Head of Group Tax and relevant governance forums.
- Input into SARS engagements including audits, requests for relevant material, objections, appeals, requests for correction, voluntary disclosure matters and other tax controversy processes.
- Own and strengthen the tax risk and control environment, including tax policies, frameworks, RCSAs, KRIs, audit issues, remediation actions, control effectiveness and governance reporting.
- Lead tax data, digitisation and automation initiatives to improve compliance accuracy, process efficiency, system controls, workflow management, analytics and forward-looking insight through the adoption of new technologies.
- Provide tax accounting and compliance input on material transactions, restructures, strategic initiatives and complex business matters.
- Build relationships with Group Finance Control and Finance community as a whole to ensure accurate forecasting prediction across process, system and team.
- Understand all tax drivers/levers and build appropriate models and calculations to ensure accurate prediction and forward-looking insight.
- Provide Strategic direction on application of tax legislation to accounting practices.
- Identify opportunities for Tax efficiencies across clusters and co-ordinate investigation, corroboration and education across SARS, Team and Clusters.
- Build relationships with relevant stakeholders including SARS in order to deliver on key objectives.
- Ensure system configuration in line with legislated compliance and identify opportunities to enhance and automate.
- Analyse identified opportunities and craft strategic direction to achieve desired outcomes.
- Set up frameworks to ensure cross skill, succession, appropriate training, mentoring & coaching across the Tax Compliance and Reporting Team.
- Foster a culture in line with relevant Nedbank culture goals.
- Responsible for recruitment and retention of staff.
- Stay abreast of relevant legislation and developments and provide feedback to team.
- Meet financial objectives by preparing and managing the Tax Department budget.
- Minimise financial or reputational risk by identifying, taking action or ensuring rectification of risk incidents/ losses.
- Represent tax compliance and reporting function by participating in relevant forums.
- Manage tax compliance and reporting by providing and distributing reports and highlighting non-compliance issues.
- Analyse deviations from Divisional Employment Equity (EE) and Transformation Plan and ensure recommended corrective action is appropriate and implemented.

Minimum Experience Level
- 7-10 years’ experience in tax including 5 years’ experience in a senior tax role, preferably within a banking environment.

- SARS dispute-resolution processes and Tax Administration Act procedures
- BEPS Pillar 2 / Global Minimum Tax awareness
