Job Purpose

Lead the Private & Alternative Equity platform within Investment Banking, responsible for the origination and execution of private equity, hybrid capital and equity-linked investments. Drive strategy, build platform capability and deliver sustainable risk-adjusted returns while supporting a full capital stack offering across the Nedbank client base.

Job Responsibilities

 Business Leadership

• Lead and develop the integrated Private & Alternative Equity platform, ensuring strong financial and non-financial performance metrics.

• Position Nedbank as a leading provider of structured equity, hybrid capital and co-investment solutions.

• Drive strategy, investment themes and sector prioritisation aligned to CIB objectives.

• Provide thought leadership on market trends, capital structures and investment opportunities.

Origination & Execution

• Originate, structure and execute private equity and hybrid capital transactions across the platform.

• Lead execution across growth equity, mezzanine structures, preference shares and equity-linked solutions.

• Execute direct equity investments, co-investments, GP/LP-led secondaries, and fund investment strategies with third-party capital allocators.

• Deliver tailored capital solutions leveraging close collaboration with IB sector teams.

Portfolio Management

• Oversee portfolio construction, performance monitoring and exits.

• Ensure valuation discipline and capital efficiency across the portfolio.

Client Engagement

• Build and maintain relationships with private equity firms, family offices, venture capital funds and investment holding companies.

• Lead complex client engagements and drive cross-sell across CIB.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with governance frameworks, policies and regulatory requirements.

• Provide senior input into Investment Committee processes and maintain risk discipline.

Team Development

• Build, lead and sustain a high-performing investment team with deep capability across private equity, hybrid capital and structuring disciplines.

• Set clear performance expectations and accountability standards aligned to financial and strategic objectives, while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration and disciplined decision-making.

• Drive talent development, succession planning and retention of critical skills, ensuring consistent delivery within CIB governance and investment frameworks.

Essential Qualifications

• Relevant honours degree

• Preferred: CA(SA), CFA, MBA or equivalent

Minimum Experience Level

• 12–15 years’ experience in private equity, alternative investments or structured finance.

• Strong track record of originating and executing complex transactions.
