Job Purpose

The successful candidate will support the innovation teams and the wider CVM community in implementing state-of-the-art technologies and analytics to solve business problems. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining an analytical platform with top-tier machine learning capabilities, which is essential for our operational success. The candidate will collaborate with the business to improve credit model quality through data modelling, enhance development and deployment rates and establish an integrated data and model development pipeline using a service-oriented approach. This position requires a strong focus on creating an easy-to-use, modular platform to drive adoption and deliver business value across a broad array of use cases.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify relevant development needs.
  • Maintain a high-performing team by identifying a talent pool through conducting career conversations and using the talent grid principles and developing talent retention programmes.
  • Build depth of skills and knowledge in the team of managers by sharing knowledge and insight.
  • Ensure continuous improvement goals are achieved by creating an environment whereby self, managers and team are encouraged to challenge the status quo by initiating constructive debates about work practices.
  • Support business strategy by identifying additional strategy opportunities from management meetings, developing new products /reports and aligning strategy with clients.

Technical Skills Required

  • Programming Languages and Technologies: Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, TensorFlow, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Flask, Docker, Jupyterhub, Kafka, Elastic and Graph algorithms.
  • Big Data Technologies: Experience with Hadoop, Spark, and other big data frameworks. Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Data Governance: Understanding of data governance and data quality management.
  • Expertise in data modelling and advanced data analytics to develop features that extract richer information from data for use in downstream processes and models.
  • Machine Learning and Modelling: Expertise in machine learning techniques and predictive modelling. 
  • Tech Stack Development for Machine Learning: Experience in leveraging various technologies to create a comprehensive tech stack for machine learning, including the development and hosting of models. 
  • Experience with AGILE methodologies and practices.
  • Stakeholder Management: Effective management of stakeholder relationships.

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree

Preferred Qualification

  • 3 Year Degree in Statistics/ Mathematics/ Engineering/ Data Science or similar 
  • Honours or Master's Degree in Mathematics, Stats, IT, Data Science or Engineering

Professional Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in utilising advanced Analytics to solve business problems.
  • Expertise in Data Science and Machine Learning technologies to extract value from large datasets (both structured and unstructured).
  • Proficiency in setting up tech stacks and utilising modular development practices for end-to-end machine learning pipelines, including data pipelines, development, and hosting of machine learning models through a service-oriented approach.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to understand business problems and implement suitable solutions.
  • Solution and action-oriented mindset with a creative approach to solving business problems.
