Credit Manager: Property Finance

Job Purpose
A Credit Manager in Nedbank Corporate Investment Banking: Property Finance is responsible for overseeing the credit risk associated with lending transactions within the Property Finance portfolio. This role involves evaluating the creditworthiness of clients, acceptability of security, managing credit portfolios and ensuring compliance within the Nedbank’s risk parameters and provide a superior client service by applying sound lending credit principles thereby enabling Nedbank to grow its client base within an acceptable credit risk appetite.
Job Responsibilities
- Review existing portfolio to ensure alignment with bank's credit policy and analysing relevant information.
- Manage on monitor the existing portfolio with regards to Nedbank’s risk appetite levels.
- Ensure Nedbank Group Rating requirements are aligned with risk metrics when reviewing transactions and identifying risks.
- Monitor financial covenants on transactions by obtaining latest financial information, measuring compliance and reporting breaches.
- Support the achievement of service level agreement standards by understanding client needs, providing guidance and recommendations and responding timeously.
- Contribute to external client satisfaction by sharing knowledge and developing skills of client service team members and other stakeholders.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders by attending meetings and supporting their strategies.
- Keep abreast of legislation and other industry changes that impacts on role by reading the relevant newsletters, websites and attending sessions.
- Understand and embrace the Nedbank vision and demonstrate the values through interaction with team and stakeholders.
- Improve personal capability and stay abreast of developments in field of expertise by identifying training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from managers.
- Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed, experience practiced, and certifications obtained and/or maintained within specified time frames.
- Ensure information is provided correctly to stakeholders by maintaining knowledge sharing with the team.
- Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).
- Participate and support corporate social responsibility initiatives for the achievement of key business strategies.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance processes, systems and policies and support implementation of new processes, policies and systems.

Credit Risk Assessment Responsibilities
- Validate all client and supporting information by assessing the content of the documents as part of the overall credit risk assessment and analysis.
- Prepare and / or review credit applications relating to new clients / existing clients / reviews / funding requests / amendment requests.
- Suggest alternative funding solutions by making recommendations based on the credit policy guidelines and the analysis based on the information provided.
- Ensure compliance of sanctioning and credit decisions based on the credit policy guidelines in conjunction to the appropriate mandated authority.
- Ability to write credit recommendations by highlighting risks and mitigants as part of the credit submission.
Portfolio Management
- Be responsible for the necessary daily, weekly and monthly reporting and ensure requisite reports are formalised within agreed timeframes.
- Seek opportunities to improve business policies, processes and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.
Financial Analysis
- Conducting detailed financial analysis of financial statements, assessment of property valuations, client projections and financial models to determine serviceability of the various funding requests.
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies specific to the portfolio by providing input into various committee reports.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders by providing a range of specialized credit risk management advisory services.
- Manage client expectations by operating within the specified parameters and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Ability to network and collaborate across various clusters within the bank.
Personal Career Development
- Identify training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from management.
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
Preferred Qualification
B.Com (Hons), CA(SA) or CFA
Preferred Certifications
CA/MBA/CFA /CIMA/BComm
Minimum Experience Level
- 2-3 years Credit Risk Management experience within Banking environment.
- Experience in Property Finance would be preferred.
